      Just got back last night from a trip to PA to pick up the Ton Gun from Dominick. This tube and carriage/chassis looked amazing in the pictures, but was absolutely AWESOME in person. For those interested, there is a great Wiki article on these guns and a a good book "Fort Rinella and Its Armstrong Ton Gun" by Mario Farrugia. During the late 19th Century, while Queen Victoria ruled the British throne, the English Government decided to build four gun batteries, each one complete with an enormous Armstrong gun weighing over tons. These guns were built to protect the harbours in the colonies of Malta. One of them - Fort Rinella - was built very close to Valletta and can still be seen today.

    Fort Rinella is one of a series of four coastal batteries built by the British in Malta and in Gibraltar between the years and The purpose for building these forts was for each of them to house an Armstrong ton gun.
